Welcome to SOSA
One of the oldest and largest gliding clubs in Canada, SOSA has a thriving membership, robust facilities, and a rich history.
Our mission is to be a leader of soaring in Canada, creating opportunities for everyone to discover and achieve their soaring goals. We are a non-profit, volunteer-based organization with more than 150 members, including world-class pilots and instructors. Everyone from tow pilot to grass cutter serves on a voluntary basis and everyone freely gives their time and energy to help SOSA function smoothly. We are proud to be known for our extensive operations, attention to safety, and our open and welcoming attitude.

Life as a member
We are a welcoming club whose members, younger and older, have a wide variety of backgrounds, interests, and flying experience. We have regular BBQ’s and social events throughout the summer months where we get to know each other and share flying stories.
The club's fleet
SOSA has the largest and most modern glider training fleet in Canada, with 10 gliders of varying types available to members. Our fleet is designed to provide the best equipment possible, from your first lesson to cross-country soaring, competition flying, and aerobatics.

Our history
Established in 1948, SOSA is one of Canada’s oldest gliding clubs. Originally operating out of Brantford Airport, the club moved to Rockton in 1965. Thanks to the hard work of many generous volunteers, what was once rocky, undulating, farmers' fields is now a thriving gliding operation.
Club facilities
The club owns Rockton Aerodrome which has three grass runways and two aircraft hangars. Excellent clubhouse facilities, with showers, kitchen, and screened in porch make the club a warm and welcoming place to visit.
The club is a short drive from Cambridge and Hamilton, Ontario and easily accessible from the Greater Toronto Area.
