Not a contest day, but Day Four of my captivity. Master Wilson still has me chained to the glider trailer. The mosquitoes are unbearable. (The insects, not the glider. Well, sometimes the glider. Wings are heavy and punishment is swift for any mistake.) The rain at night is a blessing, cooling me down and washing off the mosquito blood. I manage to catch some rain in the trailer wheel hubcaps to wash down my diet of worms and grubs. Some refuge from the sun by lying under the trailer.
 
Today was not good enough to launch the grid, but from my view in the parking area I could see that Joerg and Polish Krzys and English Chris flew for an hour or so, checking out the area. Polish Krzys did well in thermalling the Jantar in such weak conditions. 
 
 Willem elected to take a rest day and think up ways to punish me for what he calls 'hate mail' from my posting a couple days ago. I am confused about that, but far too weak to complain. 
 
Rafael Nunes had his third landout (lifetime, not today) and is shown with Fred Gray, former SOSA member on the retrieve. Also shown in the same field is what Poppa Steve Burany calls a "Bool." Next time you see him, ask Steve the difference between a Bool and a symphony orchestra. 
 
Steve Newfield stopped by and I kept trying to flash him coded signals to call the authorities, but he seemed to think that I was just madly swatting at the insects. He was partly correct.
GGC member and contestant Martin Lacasse told amusing stories of past retrieves to get HG.

Today was supposed to be a practice day, but no flying due to low cloud and no viz, and a little rain.  The forecast is similar for Wedesday and Thursday 
 
Rafael and I will try to give daily updates on the SOSA pilots.

We had our first flying day here, and I am very, very pleased to say that Chris Wilson was first.
 
Among the SOSA contingent, Willem got here next, quite late in the day, and Joerg straggled in after that, neither one scoring anywere near Chris for the day. Way to go Whiskey Two!
 
It was a difficult day, the thermals were not as good as predicted, and, as expected, Yves Bastien landed out. This is a very French area, and we are quite gratified to see so many Francophone locals embracing Canada Day and flying the Canadian Flag so proudly. Unfortunately, minorities including Yves are still bitter about losing at The Planes of Abraham, and I believe he was so distracted today in his rampant dislike of "Upper Canada" as he calls us that he naturally gravitated towards Quebec, where the lift was awful, and he was down.
 
Getting found was going to be very diffcult in such a remote area, let alone a  retrieve, however, Yves showed tremendous initiative by displaying a sign, entirely in English, which read "Help!"
 
And, within hours , he was safely arrested.
 
Chris has adopted a different approach to landouts in the wilds of Northern Quebec, using a trick learned from Dave McKenzie at York Soaring, a club well noted for their long, long cross country glides. Ol' Dave suggests taking along a short piece of Fibre Optic cable, and, after you land out, you light a cigar, lay back, and bury the cable. and, again, within hours, some guy with a backhoe will come and dig up the Fibre Optic cable.
 
Anyway, Chris is off to enjoy the fine Fireworks display, put on by our host at Gatineau, Roger Hildesheim, who is doing a great job as CD.
 
I am not going as I am chained to the glider trailer.
 
Oh, by the way, today was a practise day.
