Youth Bursary Program

The Soaring Association of Canada (SAC) offers a monetary bursary to club members under the age of 25 years old to be used on flying activities with the goal of maximizing flying training opportunities for young adults.

Overview

The Soaring Association of Canada (SAC) offers a monetary bursary to members under the age of 25 years old who are full time students at a qualifying learning institution (high school, university, college or trade school, etc).

The money is to be used on flying activities, not for membership dues, with the goal of maximizing flying training. The number of bursaries and $ amounts will vary each year depending on funds available, and will be awarded by June 1.

To apply for the bursary program, current youth members at SOSA should submit a written request to the SOSA Board by end of April each year. If bursaries are still available after that, applications can be submitted by end of June.

The request should be in essay format and include the following information:
  • Background Information about yourself
  • Why you are applying for the bursary
  • Your flying goals for the season
  • How you are prepared to help the club

In exchange for receiving the bursary, the recipient(s) are expected to contribute 50 hours of volunteer work at SOSA in the year in which they are awarded the bursary. The funds will be released to the recipient(s) at an hourly rate as their work logs are reported to the Club Treasurer.

Once reviewed and approved by SOSA board of directors, the applications are submitted for SAC Youth Bursary Program review.

How to Apply

To apply for the bursary program, youth members at SOSA should submit a written request to the SOSA Club Secretary.
