In the towplanes, portable units are being installed and they will need to be powered on after every engine start. You need to verify the powerflarm is on as part of your pre-flight checklist. It is manadatory that the unit is powered on before take-off.
In the gliders, the flarm units will switch on with the master switch. As long as there is a battery installed in the glider, the flarm will come on automatically. This means that it is critical to turn off the master switch upon landing to preserve battery power throughout the day.
The manual for the flarm display can be found in the Documents section of the website. Please review how information is displayed on the screens so that you know what it is telling you, the worst time to learn this is once you are already airborne.
There will be a flarm information session at the club on 11 May and everyone should plan to attend.
Below, you will find some excerpts from the manual showing some of the basic screens.
