2014 Canadian Nationals at SOSA

29/10/2013

The 2014 edition of the Canadian Nationals will be held at SOSA from Wednesday 25 June - Friday 4 July 2014 with practise days on Monday and Tuesday (23-24 June).

SOSA hosted the very successful 2011 Nationals and will be opening the field to our fellow glider pilots. It’s a great event and there are many opportunities for club members. Everything from competing and crewing to helping out with towing and ground operations.

Depending on the number of entries, classes will likely be handicapped FAI and club classes.

The contest website will soon be available at www.sac.ca/nationals. At the moment, it is the old 2011 site, but it is being updated for 2014.

If you plan to attend the Nationals, please complete the pilot registration form that is available on the website (once we update it to 2014).  A note at the top of the registration page will say "2014 Nationals open for registration" when the form is ready.

Canadian Team - Aeroplan Donations for Leszno

24/10/2013

Planning is now underway for the 2014 World Championship in Leszno Poland and as part of this, the team is seeking donations of Aeroplan miles to help subsidize the cost of airfare to Poland. Donation need to be made prior to the 10 November cut-off.

The 2014 Canadian Team consists of:
Jerzy Szemplinski in the 18 m class
Dave Springford in the 15 m class, and
Jarek Twardowski as the team captain

Any one who would like to donate aeroplan miles, please download the donation form complete it, sign it and then scan and email to me at:

dave "at" foxonecorp "dot" com

The donation period expires on 10 November and at that time we plan to purchase tickets to take advantage of the best seat availability and lowest price. No amount of miles is too small (or too large) to donate.

Thanks in advance!

2013 Fall Work Weekend

10/10/2013

Please note that year's fall work weekend has been scheduled for Nov. 9 - 10 2013.  This is the weekend we ask all members to come out and help get the club winterized for the season.  As we get closer to the that day, notes will be published as to what work is going to be scheduled and how we plan to tackle all the tasks.

Please mark your calendars and look forward to seeing everyone there.

New Radio for PNN

3/10/2013

The Junior - PNN now has a new Becker AR6201 radio installed to replace the malfunctioning Microair that was previously installed.  The 6201 is similar to the 4201 models that are installed in the K-21's FUYE and FUZH, but please read the manual so that you know how it operates.

The 6201 has a new dual-watch function where you may listen to two frequencies at the same time.  The primary frequency always over-rides transmissions on the dual-watch frequency if there are transmissions at the same time on both frequencies and the radio always transmits on the primary frequency.

This dual-watch function will be particularly useful when flying near the Waterloo or Hamilton CZ's so that you can hear what the tower is doing and use that info to look for traffic.
