Pat O'D, Diane M, Selena B. Krysztof W, Selena B. and Shirley worked together to make this event a success, for SOSA. Thanks to all for a job well done.
Pat and Selena were kind in sending their feedback after the show.
From Pat:
The people at Waterloo were welcoming, and set us up well. The table was suitable for our use and in a good location on the upstairs hall. Families coming to the pre-flight briefing and other activities came upstairs and had an opportunity to see our display.
The display included two panels of SOSA Photos and a laptop with some short movies of gliding in far away locations. I think the combination was both informative and entertaining considering the brief time each visitor was at the display. The draw for two free glider rides was well received. Those who filled out tickets is as they represented a wide range of people, from very little girls to old men.
We gave out a couple of dozen reduced rate tickets too. A certain amount of good will is gained by being part of an event held at a local airport. We were able to introduce more people to our corner of aviation. We told them who we where and that we were located in the area. We also indicated that they would be most welcome at our field even if they only wanted to look.
With an event held in what is usually our off season, getting club members to attend the display should not be difficult. I think we should be part of it if the event is held again.
It was a good event for the organizers and SOSA.
From Selena:
Overall, I think that the day was a success. Shirley and Pat were instrumental in making the display a success with some great photos, brochures, and information about the club. Diane, Pat, Krzyz, and myself all contributed to the success of the running of the booth. I think that the club generated a lot of interest, we approximate that we talked to 80-100 people, and I am hoping that at least a few of them come out to the club to see what gliding is all about!
By the end of the day we handed out countless brochures, many posters (especially to the younger attendees), and approximately 15 flight discount vouchers. Many people were interested in entering the draw. We think that an email should be sent out to all of these people to invite them to the SOSA open house flying day, once that is scheduled.
In sum, I definitely think that the day was a success and well worth it for SOSA to attend. If possible, I think the club should try to attend more events of this nature.
