T'was a dark and stormy day when 17 eager-to-learn enthusiasts gathered at SOSA this past Saturday afternoon. The wind was howling to the point that the ceiling tiles moved, but the "Brennan the Pyro" fire had the room warm in no time. We started off with a video presentation about the 2005 Gliding Grand Prix from Omarama, New Zealand. Wow - with the technology available, Gliding will in no time be a spectator sport. Dan Daly kept all entertained with his well prepared presentation on gliding in Minden, Nevada. It was especially exciting to hear about how not to fly through the same sink TWICE, how to take fantastic photographs at minus 6kts and something the locals call the KitKat Ranch. Joerg Stieber presented a Maggot race centered around the 2006 Nationals (Lots of booing for the yellow guy - hahaha). Questions were expertly answered, by Joerg, Dave Springford and John Brennan. Great fun with great friends - Thanks to all that attended
"Maggot racing" is an euphemism for watching little airplane icons trace around across a computer map.
