The parameters for the contest are simple: perform a low-energy spot landing similar to the bronze badge and cross-country check-out requirements. Lines will be marked on the runway with a threshold mark that is The Spot. Additional lines will be marked upwind of The Spot so that a precise touchdown point can be assessed by the judges.
The pilot that lands closest to The Spot while performing a proper low-energy landing wins.
Also a Family Day
For the precision landing day on the 24th, we are also hoping to make it a family day. Some parents will bring out games like Croquet, Badminton sets, Lawn darts, etc. to set up around the clubhouse so that the kids can play and be entertained while the landing contest is happening. So bring the whole family so they can all enjoy the day.
After flying, around 6 PM, the Canadian Team will host a fund-raising Polish Sausage BBQ. If you have never attended one of these Polish Sausage nights don't miss out, they are great. And after the BBQ, Mark L. and team will host an Astronomy night. They'll set up telescopes on the clubhouse lawn and give a guided tour of the stars and planets.
So don't miss out!
The cost for entry to the landing contest is $25 and that covers the cost of your tow and flight. For the BBQ, the cost is $20 with all the proceeds going to support the Canadian team going to Australia (we received the confirmation that all 4 team members have made the cut and will be competing in Benalla).
There is a sign up list in the clubhouse for the Polish Sausage BBQ, but you may also email Dave S. to be added to the list (please don't sign up on both). Please sign up or RSVP to me by 19 Sept so we have enough time to get enough food.
